What Does Good Food Have to do with Mental Health?

In my last post, I delved into the mental-health benefits of escaping for stress-relief, and how something so simple as watching TV for awhile, will help relieve stress and tension in your life.

In this post, I’m going to dive into one of the best ways to relieve tension & help you ‘escape!’

The wonders of good FOOD!

It goes without saying that our bodies need good nutrition in order to feel good. But think beyond that…

[SCENE]

Imagine running errands for 2 or 3 hours after eating a “good” breakfast. But 4 hours later, I’m hungry. I’m thinking about my next stop, and it’s right next-door to a Hamburger joint that recently opened. I’d only eaten there once, but I can still remember that burger. Actually, I can almost ‘taste’ it! It’s not like the normal, everyday fast-food burgers. It was dressed with fresh tomatoes and lettuce and the best cheese! Okay, that’s it. I’ve made up my mind. Burger from ‘the new place!’ (Still, fast-food, but “good” fast-food, right?)

So, I complete my errands, then run into the new burger place, order, & decide to eat in the car, while listening to my favorite music.

Half-way through the meal, I realize, this wasn’t a good idea. In the first place, the burger doesn’t taste like I’d remembered. For another thing, more red meat wasn’t supposed to be on my menu for lunch in the first place! But, I finished the burger anyway, and drove home, over bumpy roads, through traffic, driving fast on the Interstate…Pull into the driveway, park and realize, I have indigestion.

 [NEW SCENE]

Now, Imagine on a Saturday afternoon, changing from house-slippers into shoes, anticipating lunch, because I’m meeting a friend at one of our favorite restaurants. I’ll spend about $5 or $10 more because it’s a “nice” restaurant. But I already have an idea of what I’m going to order, because I’ve eaten there once before.

You can probably, already guess that after that meal, I’m going to feel a lot better than if I’d eaten a hurried fast-food meal.

Thing is…

Food has the power to transform your day ~ for more than one reason!

  1. Nutritious food is better for you, so it makes you feel better. (Duh!)
  2. The social interaction that occurs when you’re eating something that tastes really good, something you’re enjoying, will just simply, make you feel better. You may even, be eating alone, but you will want to tell somebody!
  3. Good food causes us to think of those we love, for some reason. It reminds us that we are blessed, even if our current circumstances aren’t what we’d like.

And The endorphins released in our brains, when we feel good and when are enjoying the moment, bring that feeling we all want and need.

Lesson? Be good to your mouth! Eat well. Avoid over-eating, because that will only make you feel bloated.

Why the Holidays Cause Stress (& Another Alternative)

It goes without saying that the holidays bring on added stress. We have to deal with preparation, shopping-demands, then the usual aches & pains, the regular & sometimes, overdue bills, the expectations of others…managing the budget, seeing relatives that we don’t see everyday, and balancing demanding schedules! No wonder we’re stressed!

But the fact is, this special Season is meant to be about Joy, Sharing, Giving and showing Love. Most days, that’s not the case, and if we’re honest, sometimes Christmas Day brings heartache and disappointment.

Break this cycle!

Stop and think about what you’re doing!

Find your peaceful place.

All of life is about sharing our feelings of love …It’s about friends and family and community. Without that love, nothing else really matters. I mean, when it’s all said and done, the love and the memories are all we will have remaining!

You’re worth it!

Need a Breakthrough? Use What You Have: Your Words!

Ever feel like, no matter what you do, you’re always struggling? You’re not alone. I can relate!

I remember graduating high-school with expectations of an exciting corporate-office career. I did what my parents told me to do…I enrolled into college the very next fall.
I attended my classes when my friends were in the pool hall, or sitting around telling jokes, even when I found the class boring.

In other words, I started out doing everything “right.” Sound familiar?

Somehow, years later, I found myself struggling to make ends meet, struggling to get along with my co-workers, struggling to please the boss, even struggling with the so-called “exciting” corporate-environment, with its “exciting” people, and “exciting” dress-code, and “exciting” after-hour-get-together’s. It was all a big struggle. This wasn’t my dream at all! 

Where was that “wrong turn?” Where did I go astray? Why was I struggling?
                        Turns out, my words were phrases like,
Girl, I’m so broke, I don’t know what to do!
And “Man, I am so tired all the time!
And “I am sick & tired of these people in this office!
And “These kids are getting on my nerves!
Notice anything similar about these phrases?
Turns out, my so-called problems were created by my negative state of mind. When I first made this discovery, after reading Neale Donald Walsch’s “Conversations with God: An Uncommon Dialogue,” I was so relieved! I’m thinking, “I CAN be cured of this negativity in my life!”
But then, the hard work started. I had to train my mind to think positive thoughts instead…Not easy, let me tell you!
But, if you want to live…I mean, really live a happy, healthy life, you’ll be motivated everyday, by every event, by every negative person who approaches you…to push forward, read more of that book that inspires…listen to more of that music that makes you sing…to do whatever it takes to break through!
And, again, in the treasured reward, you’re not alone…
There are others like me, like you, who have pushed forward, through all the negative hype, and learned to take control of their lives and make each day count!

Got a Dream? Here’s How to Make it Happen!

“Anything we build can be destroyed by forces beyond our control. But what we have built has a better chance of survival if we start with a strong foundation.

foundationThese are the words of an average small-business owner from Canada, named Scott. He started with nothing, and built something great.

 

Anyone with a vision knows that some kind of investment is necessary to see the vision become a tangible thing. But your investment of money, emotions, work or effort has to be a passionate “donation” to the dream.

That goes without saying. 

You’ll need care.

You’ll need to bring something “to the table”.

You’ll need drive and determination.

You’ll need a spiritual connection to a Higher Power than you!

Anything worth having is worth investing passion.

Write it down!

  1. Write down your dream or vision. Be specific about what you want!
  2. Now, you’ll need to see it! So, find a picture or likeness of what you desire, and place it in a prominent place that you’ll see every morning.
  3. Keep a journal of your progress, and do something everyday to draw closer to your goal.
  4. Be grateful for every little step forward, believing in positive outcomes.

But there is something else you need, that conventional thinking does not take into account;

…but those who are successful life, earning enough money to sustain themselves, living stress-free happy lives… have this one thing in abundance.

 

A spiritual connection. You cannot, and will not succeed without it! You might have the money, the house, the car, the parties…but that lonely emptiness will be hanging on, true happiness, joy & peace will evade your dreams…

An emptiness fills my gut. Where’s the joy?

Remember Scott? He mentioned the need for a strong foundation. Here’s something else to consider if you’re looking to start any kind of venture or pursue any kind of dream: 

Think about 3 things:

  1. If I weren’t building my dream, what would I be doing with my time?
  2. If it takes years to start seeing the results of my hard work, would this all be worth it?
  3. Am I enjoying the way I’m spending my time working toward my dream, or is it a “chore?”

Needless to say, the “Successful” must have a certain mind-set, and a clear focus.

This is a special mind-set, that comes out of Self-Development. And as You develop, you will add value to others’ lives, gaining the trust and respect of 

  • Local and online friends & family, (connecting online with Social Media & forums) and
  • Local and online communities.

 

You only need to have a dream, envision your dream, engage a system, follow the plan, put forth the effort and be consistent….

…And connect with God today, (now is a good time!)

…in a true and spiritual way:

Therein lies your inner power to achieve anything!

Yes, it Is Possible to Heal Your Life. (This is no joke. Free Life-changing Report!)
